Flavor 9: Earrings You Can Actually Wear To Bed
IT IS CRAZY THAT THIS IS NOT THE NORM FOR EARRINGS.
Some light housekeeping: Natch Beaut’s Jackie J. and I have launched a brand new podcast on Patreon!
JUST ONE EPISODE brings you a spankin’ new “podcast” every week, complete with cover art, a theme song, and topic. The catch? There’s JUST ONE EPISODE.
This week you can listen to PEOPLE DIED AND IT’S HORRIBLE: A TRUE CRIME PODCAST. Next week? It won’t be true crime, we can tell you that much.
Patrons get access to all episodes ad-free, bonus video content and much more. It’s also a wonderful way to support the free work we do outside of Patreon (like this newsletter!).
We’re having a blast with it and we hope to see you there!
Welcome to Flavor Of The Week, a spinoff newsletter from Gee Thanks, Just Bought It! One item we think you’ll love, why we already love it, and where you can get it — straight to your inbox every Tuesday.
What: The Maison Miru Flatback Earrings
How Much?: $39 - $169 depending on the style and material.
Anything I Should Know?: Earrings are sold separately, not in pairs. They’re good for both lobe and cartilage piercings but since I only have my lobes pierced that’s what my review will touch on!
Shouldn’t all earrings have flat backs? I mean, seriously, think about it. If you’re a person who wears earrings you know the feeling of the pin sticking you behind the ear while you’re doing something as innocuous as leaning against a window on a plane ride or falling asleep on the couch.
It sucks.
Then you have to take off the earrings and figure out a safe place to put them. If you’re in transit, this can get dicey. I’ve basically stopped wearing earrings while I travel because of the amount of times I’ve put earrings in a place I swore I'd remember and then instantly forget.
And then Maison Miru came along and just like, fixed the problem for me. Genius.
If you’re not familiar with Maison Miru, their rainbow ear cuff all but sold out when we last included it in a gift guide on Gee Thanks! (Don’t worry — it seems to be back in stock now!) MM makes simple, dainty and well-made jewelry special enough for a night out on the town and classic enough for everyday wear. Their price points are affordable, which is a nice bonus. I am a huge fan of their recently launched Ear Party Kits, which start at $102 for a mix of 5 different earrings.
MM’s founder, Trisha, says her mission is to create jewelry building blocks (she calls them “grown-up legos”) and help people build their collections intentionally while also having fun.
If you are an earrings wearer, you don’t need me to tell you why flatback pieces serve a real purpose! I have always been a little jealous of people who wear all of their jewelry 24/7 (like, how does it not get tangled? How have you not punched a thousand tiny pinholes in your head? I don’t know the answers! This is not rhetorical!).
I want to wear earrings all the time. I want to put them in and never take them off. I didn’t think it was in the cards but now…it is in the cards. I have kept my Maison Miru flatback earrings on for a full month now, and I honestly forget they’re there most of the time. That’s huge for me. I’m often hypersensitive to jewelry, and whenever I find something that works I make a longterm commitment. So yes, what I’m saying is I married the earrings.
The Goods: Affordable, versatile, and thoughtfully designed. And it’s not just earrings. Maison Miru makes rings, necklaces, even nose rings.
The Caveat Emptor: The earrings are small, which lend themselves to the flexibility of how often you can wear them. But there is a learning curve to getting those flatbacks secure. Once I figured it out, it was smooth sailing. If you have a hard time on the first or second try, don’t give up.
