What: Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen
How much?: Usually between $140-$230, but right now (as of 10/20/21) you can get 25% off with code GEETHANKS on Skinstore, and an extra 4% cash back on Rakuten.
Anything I should know?: This stuff has a cult following and I am in that cult. It’s expensive, so I try to seek it out on sale. But don’t stock up! You don’t want to risk being stuck with expired product if you don’t move through the bottle quickly enough. One 60mL bottle lasts me about 6-7 months with consistent use. As with all skincare (as with anything, really!) YMMV. Some people think it has a scent. Others don’t. I am in the “can’t smell it” camp. If you are very sensitive to scent, definitely see if you can sniff it in stores before purchasing.
I cannot stress this enough: Very expensive skincare products give me pause. No, actually, they scare the shit out of me. You’re telling me this teeny tiny little bottle of ~*sErUm*~ is going to make me look younger? And everyone agrees that this $9000 jar of cream, that looks just like this $7.99 jar of cream except it’s in a smaller jar, is going to give me the soft hands of a small child? You’re…telling me…that everyone else is buying this cream and now everyone else has $9000 fewer dollars and very soft hands? And I am out here missing out? Like some kind of freak?
Do I want the soft hands of a small child? I’ve never thought about it, but that’s the thing about a $9000 small child’s hand cream; the mere fact that it exists convinces me that I am doing something wrong by not caring about it. But even still, I don’t care about it. I’m sure the $7.99 cream is good enough for my old hands.
I am the first person in line to find the cheaper dupe of an expensive thing. Which is why I find it infuriating when I try something expensive and it actually works. Algenist sent me a bottle of their Genius Liquid Collagen back in 2018 and after I googled how much it cost ($230?!) I decided I’d use it, feel superior when it didn’t work, and then go on with my life.
Sadly, things took a turn when this magical little bottle of neon yellow gloop began to make my face look glowier, more hydrated, and bouncier. In the same way that a few coats of mascara can make your eyes look bright and bushy-tailed on an 8:30am Zoom call, Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen does the same thing to your skin. I swear it even makes me feel more awake when I put it on. It has also moderately minimized the lines around my eyes and on my neck and forehead.
G-d damnit!!!
Here are the details:
Like, what are those words? What does that mean? It really does feel bouncier, though, I’ll give it that. I started buying more after I finished the bottle that had been gifted to me, focusing on sales and discounts to help make the cost a little easier to swallow. I use it a few times a week (just because I want to make the bottle last), and I moisturize immediately afterwards.
Right now there’s a good sale: As of 10/20/2021, Skinstore is selling the $230 valued bottle at $135, and code GEETHANKS will get you an additional 25% off.
Using Rakuten will get you 4% cash back. If you’ve never used Rakuten before and use our Gee Thanks link, you’ll get $30 automatically in your cash back account when you make your first purchase.
I hope if you try it, you’ll let me know what you think!
