Anything I should know?: It’s the perfect thing to ask for this holiday season, especially if you have parents or family members who insist on getting you gifts. You will see it on the Gee Thanks! gift guide featured on the November 1 episode of Forever35.
If the iron and ironing board combo seems too daunting to you, if your clothes need more than a simple steam to look more “human being” and less “I found this at the bottom of the chair pile”, your jaw will hit the floor when you learn about The Nori Press.
If your flatiron and your clothing iron had a baby, it would be The Nori Press. And if you were a lover of reality tv in 2006, you may remember Lauren Conrad frantically trying to get the wrinkles out of her pencil skirt with her Hot Tools. “It straightens my hair,” she defended herself to roommate Heidi Montag. LC was in a rush to get out of the house and to her Teen Vogue interview. She got the job! Was it because her skirt looked so amazing?!
No, Lauren Conrad is not the inventor of the Nori, though I want so much to believe she inspired it.
You can use the Nori (that’s iron spelled backwards, by the way) two ways. You can hang your clothing or lay it on a flat surface like a bed. There’s a setting for any type of garment. Cotton, silk, denim and even polyester are covered by your Nori, and I think it’s admirable that they included a polyester setting. You just press the Setting button until you land upon what you need and your Nori is ready to go in about three minutes.
It’s 14 inches and weighs about a pound and a half, so it’s the perfect travel item. I brought it to a wedding last weekend and was able to get my dress and my husband’s dress shirt pressed in just 15 minutes. As an experiment I turned the hotel iron on at the same time. By the time I was finished, the hotel iron was just heating up.
While you certainly can use it to iron your sheets, the Nori is best for smaller items like tops, dresses, shirt collars, and crushed hemlines. Plus, it’s a plug-in tool so it can hang out in your carry-on luggage no problem. It has a steam setting and a little spout for water or Nori’s Fabric Facial solution (full disclosure: I haven’t tried the solution!).
For far too long I have avoided buying certain clothing items for fear that taking care of them would fall by the wayside. With the Nori, I am more open to pieces that can be refreshed with a once-or-twice over while they’re still hanging in my closet.
