🎰 We have a winner! 🎰
PLUS: an exclusive time-sensitive code you won't find on IG or Facebook ;)
When I started Gee Thanks! in 2019 I had no idea what it would or could become. I just really liked shopping and helping others shop. And talking. Beyond that, I didn’t have any grand plans or strong feelings about a Facebook group or a super engaged Instagram account. I definitely didn’t plan on a newsletter that would reach 10,000 people.
Thank you for being here for this extremely special moment in time. Nothing has ever made me feel as insignificant as that recent picture of millions of specks in space, but then I think about the Gee Thanks! community we’ve built together and I say, hey, there’s no one else I’d rather be floating dust with.
To celebrate, I asked Alana from Maya (okay, I begged) if we could bring back the 20% off code for one day only and just for the newsletter subscribers. No Facebook posts, no Instagram stories. So…
The code GEEZER20 is good until tomorrow 7/16 at 12:01am PST.
If you’re new here, welcome! Maya Base is a perfume oil that mixes with your skin chemistry to create a scent that is uniquely yours. It is VERY popular in these parts and I am always getting messages like the one below.
Maya 1 has more tropical notes and can be layered on top of Base or worn on its own! If you haven’t tried it yet, I recommend starting with Maya Base.
Today is also the last day to shop the 20% off sale at Tula with code HOWL20. The Instant De-Puff (see comments below) made the number one spot on Top Buys this week with the Vitamin C duo close behind. I recommend getting some of the bundles. They are already discounted as a set (the Radiance Bundle is $92 but buying each product individually would put you over $150) and then you can take another 20% off that already low price. These are all full sizes!
I mentioned on Instagram yesterday that the next 6 weeks of shopping are going to look something like this:
Starting now, all summer clothing will start hitting the sales racks (yes, it’s July 15th). There will be the first round sales and then there will be CLEARANCE. Waiting for clearance is something I recommend if you are an XXS or XS. Stores are obsessed with very small people and the world is not full of that many very small people. So the inventory is always going to be higher on those sizes meaning that they will have to be sold at a deep deep discount in order to offload them. If you’re not an XXS or XS (hi) and you see something on sale in your size, don’t wait for it to go into clearance. Your size will not be there, even if the item is. The item will show as available and on sale, you will get excited, and then you will realize there are only XXS and XS left. Trust.
Starting now but definitely in the last week of July, you’re going to start seeing fall clothing appearing in the New Arrivals sections at full-price. In early to mid-August there will be a weekend sale (usually Back-to-School themed) for between 20-30% off. Then the clothing will be full price again.
Depending on how sales go in the next 6 weeks, stores are going to feel pressure to really unload before October 1, when holiday merchandise begins to arrive. The last weeks of both August and September should yield really good discounts.
Going to IRL stores is a way to get the best deals on the sale and clearance items, as you will find things in the store that you cannot find online. This requires a sort of thrifting, TJ Maxx mentality, where you may have to literally dig to score something major. But the reward is fun and it’s something to do. I recommend doing this the last week of August (pre-school) and the last week of September (pre-holidays). (Halloween counts as part of “The Holidays” here).
Sales Happening Right Now
Tula: 20% off using code HOWL20. I have become a Tula convert. Do not miss out on this sale. DO NOT.
Madewell: In line with what I said above, Madewell is currently having a very big sale with most summer items between 30-70% off with an extra 40% off at checkout. (And so it begins.)
Balsam Hill: Speaking of holidays, if you were eyeing a Balsam Hill Christmas Tree, you can get them for 50% off right now (a huge discount). These trees will last you forever, but they only go on sale 2x a year: Christmas in July, and the week after Christmas. So if you want a Balsam Hill in your house for Christmas 2022, this is your chance. I bought the Traditional Blue Spruce with pre-lit clear lights for $399 (regularly $700). I have been waiting for months for this sale because I didn’t pull the trigger fast enough after Christmas and I refuse to pay full price.
Nordstrom: It’s the anniversary sale and now is a great time to buy bras and basics. I know influencers are not impressed with the offerings but it’s still worth looking around, especially if you’re one of those people who likes to buy gifts in advance or just loves the Barefoot Dreams of it all.
PS: The response to the shoppable and searchable Prime Day spreadsheet was AMAZING! I am so happy that so many of you were able to use it to find the best deals on the products you were looking for. This is going to be a thing for newsletter subscribers moving forward. Think exclusive master spreadsheets for Black Friday, the after Christmas sales, Memorial Day, etc.
And of course, I promised a box of skincare goodies to the 10,000th subscriber: Congratulations to Jendi McNicholas!
Have a great weekend, and thanks for being the best ever.
